Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN GREENBANK
Greenbank is 110 square kilometres holding two completely different housing types. There is the acreage stock that went in from the 1960s onwards, much of it now 30 to 60 years old with a chemical barrier that expired decades ago, and there are the new estates like Everleigh and Covella where a single builder’s barrier is the only protection the house has ever had. Over 98 per cent of dwellings here are separate houses averaging four bedrooms, so there is a lot of building perimeter in play.
What surrounds you matters more. The Greenbank Military Range holds roughly 4,500 hectares of retained forest inside the locality, including 117 hectares of melaleuca and eucalypt swamp, and the whole suburb sits inside the Flinders Karawatha Corridor. Coptotermes termites nest in gum tree bases, stumps and buried timber, then forage up to 50 metres out from that nest. On a one-acre block with mature gums on it, that arithmetic is not in your favour.
Sheds, wood piles, tank stands, feed storage and paddock edges finish the picture. Rodents, coastal brown ants, huntsman spiders and the occasional snake all track in along the bushland corridors, and the humid Logan summers push ant and cockroach numbers hard from October through March.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN GREENBANK
Termites do more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms combined, and insurance covers none of it. Greenbank carries risk at both ends of its housing stock. The pre-2000 acreage homes are long past the service life of whatever went in when they were built. The new estate homes sit on freshly turned soil, which is exactly the condition Coptotermes acinaciformis takes advantage of during a building’s first few years.
On acreage the inspection runs longer than the usual 90 minutes, because the house is only part of it. Roof void, subfloor, internal walls and external perimeter, then out to the fence lines, retaining walls, stumps, sleepers, sheds and tank stands, with a moisture meter and thermal camera finding what is behind the wall linings without anything being cut open. Photos, findings and recommendations reach you in writing the same day.
Find termites and you get options laid out honestly, with real costs and real timeframes against each. Chemical barrier, bait and monitoring system, or the two together. On a big block carrying several potential nest trees, monitoring usually beats chasing a single tunnel, and we will say so even though it is not the biggest invoice. Nobody here is going to frighten you into the most expensive option while standing in your driveway.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
The ten-minute lap of the house with a spray wand is not what happens here. Your technician works from the inside out, starting with the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then climbing into the roof void and getting under the floor, because that is where the problem usually begins rather than where you first noticed it.
Outside covers the building perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds. On a Greenbank block it also covers the shed, the pump housing, the tank stand and the retaining walls, and that is not padding. On acreage the outbuildings get colonised first and then quietly supply the house. Webbing and wasp nests come down while we are there, and voids that no spray can reach get dusted or baited.
A standard house runs 60 to 90 minutes; a property with several outbuildings takes longer and the quote will say so up front. You get talked through the findings before we drive out, then the warranty certificate by email that day and a reminder when the next service is due.

Frequently Asked Questions
Greenbank Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Greenbank?
Block size and building count decide it, and you will have a fixed price before we book. A shed, a pump house and a tank stand are three more perimeters to treat, so a one-acre property is simply a different job from a lot in Everleigh, and no advertised number can tell the difference between them. That is why we quote instead of publishing a price list. Call 1300 545 489, tell us the block size and what you have been seeing, and you will get a real figure on that call at no charge. On the value side of the ledger: CSIRO places this region in a high termite risk zone, no insurer pays for termite damage, and our 365 Pest Protection Plans spread it across the year.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Greenbank?
Yearly is the minimum and six to nine months is the sensible answer on acreage. The QBCC recommends an annual inspection by a licensed pest controller, or more often in high hazard areas, and Greenbank meets that description on the geography alone: 4,500 hectares of retained forest inside the locality plus the melaleuca and eucalypt swamp of the army training area wetland. Coptotermes acinaciformis occurs throughout Queensland, nests in tree bases and stumps, and works up to 50 metres out. Book a termite inspection and the annual reminder is ours to remember, not yours.
My house is brand new. Do I really need pest control already?
Yes, and the new estates are the clearest example of why. A new build sits on disturbed soil that frequently has construction off-cuts buried in it, which is precisely what makes new buildings vulnerable in their first years. Your builder installed a system to AS 3660.1 and fixed a durable notice in the meter box recording what it is and how long the chemical was expected to last. That notice is a record, not a shield, and a garden bed banked against the slab edge can bridge the whole thing without leaving a mark you would notice. Read the notice, then book an inspection.
Is the treatment safe for my kids and pets?
Yes, and on acreage the honest version has more moving parts. Products are APVMA registered and applied at label rates by a licensed technician, into wall voids, roof spaces and cracks as bait or dust, along skirting and the external perimeter as spray. Dry within a couple of hours. What matters more out here is what else lives on the block. Tell us about the chickens, horses, working dogs, the dam, the fish and the vegetable patch before we arrive and the products and placement change accordingly. Rodent bait goes into lockable tamper-resistant stations, never loose in a shed where a dog or a bird will find it. Licence 15229237, twenty million public liability. See the residential page.
Do I need to leave the house?
No. Kids and pets stay clear of rooms while they are being treated and off external surfaces until dry, roughly one to two hours, and that is the extent of the disruption. What actually helps is access: the roof void hatch, the subfloor entry and a clear metre around the house, plus dogs and horses shut away from wherever we are working. If you are away for work and want the external done now and the internal later, we will split it and come back at no extra charge, because half a job done properly beats a full job rushed. Ring 1300 545 489 or send the quote form through.
How quickly can you get to Greenbank?
Usually same day or next, Saturdays included. Being based around Ipswich makes Greenbank, New Beith, Boronia Heights, Park Ridge and Forestdale short runs, and we are through here most weeks anyway. Call 1300 545 489 and you get the real next available slot rather than a promise someone will be in touch. Rats in the roof, a wasp nest by the back door, mud trails on a fence post you noticed this morning: flag it and it jumps the queue. Otherwise we book around you, and often on the same run as Jimboomba or Springfield Lakes.
I already sprayed and it did not work. Can you still help?
Yes, and out here it happens constantly. Hardware store sprays repel rather than kill, so they scatter a colony instead of ending it, and with coastal brown ants scattering actively makes things worse: multiple queens, spread by budding, so the colony simply seeds itself into the next stretch of lawn. Supermarket rodent bait fails differently again. Thrown loose in a shed it gets cached, taken by something that was never the target, or ignored outright in favour of the horse feed sitting a metre away. Tell us what you used and where. It genuinely helps pin the species and the spread, and then the full residential treatment goes after the harbourage rather than the surface.
What is covered by the 12-month warranty?
Every general pest treatment carries twelve months. If what we treated for comes back inside that window we return and re-treat, free, without an argument about it. Cover extends to the pests printed on your certificate, which on a standard job means ants, cockroaches, spiders and silverfish. Termite work, rodent baiting programs and bed bugs sit outside that because they run on their own cycles, so they are quoted and warranted separately. And to be straight with you, no barrier keeps termites off a property. The National Construction Code describes a system as reducing the risk of concealed entry, not eliminating the insect. The terms and conditions carry the full wording.
Can you treat fire ants in Greenbank?
No, and neither can anyone else in the private industry, because fire ants are regulated biosecurity matter. Greenbank sits inside the program area, which means treatment and the movement of soil, mulch, hay and turf are all controlled under the Biosecurity Act 2014. Report them to the National Fire Ant Eradication Program on 13 22 68, and read Logan City Council’s fire ant page for what your general biosecurity obligation actually requires of you as a landholder. What we can do is identify them on site so you are not guessing, and treat every other ant on the property, coastal brown and black house ants included. Council also runs the local mosquito control program.
