Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN IPSWICH
Ipswich has the oldest housing we work on and that is the whole story. The city has been building without a break since the 1840s, running from early colonial and Victorian cottages through to the Queensland bungalow, and central suburbs like Woodend, Newtown, East Ipswich, Booval and Silkstone are full of timber homes on timber stumps that never had a chemical barrier of any description. Stumps, bearers, joists and subfloors are where the damage turns up.
The waterways run through the middle of all of it. The Bremer winds past the CBD and Basin Pocket, while Bundamba Creek drains 114 square kilometres across roughly 30 kilometres, tracking past Bundamba, Booval, East Ipswich, Raceview and Flinders View. Deebing Creek carries a documented sediment problem below the Centenary Highway. Wet ground, tired drainage and a flood record running 1893 to 1974 to 2022 all keep subterranean termites and rodents in business.
Ipswich City Council monitors around 200 mosquito treatment sites and names breeding hotspots at South Station Road in Raceview, Clem Street in Brassall and Ash Street in Flinders View. Put that alongside an Amberley February averaging 122 millimetres of rain and the ant and cockroach pressure from October to March makes sense.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN IPSWICH
The CSIRO national termite survey places Ipswich in its high hazard band, recording activity outside the building at 44.7 per cent of homes surveyed and inside at 26 per cent, adjusted to a standard 30-year-old house. Termites cause more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms combined, none of it insured. With housing stock this old, those numbers are not abstract.
Ninety minutes on site is typical. We go through the roof void, the subfloor, internal walls, the external perimeter, fence lines, retaining walls, stumps and loose timber in the yard, using a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing behind a wall lining needs to be opened up to be seen. On the older timber homes the ant capping gets serious attention, because corroded or missing capping lets termites into the bearer ends without a mud trail ever appearing. Report, photos and recommendations arrive the same day.
Where we find termites, you get the options with real numbers and real timeframes beside each one. Chemical barrier, bait and monitoring system, or a combination. A high-set timber home calls for a different answer than a slab house in Yamanto or Flinders View, and we will explain the difference rather than quoting one solution for every address. What we will not do is stand in your lounge room and frighten you into the dearest option.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes around the outside with a wand is not a pest treatment, it is a lap of the house. Ours starts indoors and works down: kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards first, then up into the roof void and under the floor, which in Ipswich is nearly always where the real story is.
Outside we cover the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds. On the older homes there is extra attention on the stumps, the ant caps, the ground clearance beneath the bearers and anything stacked against the subfloor, because that is the route in and most of it is fixable for nothing. Webbing and wasp nests come down, and the voids a spray will never reach get dusted or baited.
Sixty to ninety minutes covers most jobs. You get a walk-through of what was found, what was treated and what to watch for, then the certificate by email the same day and a nudge from us when the next service falls due.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ipswich Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Ipswich?
Age and construction decide it here more than floor area, and you will have a fixed price before we book. A character timber home with a walk-in subfloor takes substantially longer to inspect properly than a modern slab house in Yamanto, and a quote that ignores that is a quote that changes on the day. Publishing one number would misrepresent half the housing stock in this city, so we do not. Ring 1300 545 489, tell us roughly when the house was built and whether it is high-set, and the figure you get is the figure you pay. Free either way. For context: CSIRO places this region in a high termite risk zone, termite damage is uninsured, and the QBCC recommends annual inspections.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Ipswich?
Annually as a floor, and six to nine months on an old timber home. The QBCC recommends yearly inspection and reporting by a licensed pest controller, or more often in high hazard areas, and Ipswich qualifies twice over. It sits in the CSIRO high hazard zone, and much of the central housing stock predates any requirement for a termite management system at all. If the house went up before the mid 1990s there is no meaningful chemical protection left in the soil, because the long-lived organochlorine treatments were withdrawn and everything since has a life measured in years. The QBCC guide covers what a system has to do. Book an inspection.
My house is an old Queenslander on stumps. Is that worse?
Different, and in one important respect better. A subfloor you can walk into is a subfloor that can actually be inspected, which is more than can be said for a slab where damage stays invisible until it reaches the frame. The trade-offs are real though: timber stumps in ground contact hand termites a direct path, clearance beneath the bearers is often too tight for airflow, and corroded ant capping is close to standard on houses of this age. CSIRO names timber in ground contact, poor drainage and low subfloor clearance as the key structural risk factors. Fixing drainage and clearing stored timber from under the house are the two cheapest wins available. The inspection report lists exactly what to fix.
Is the treatment safe for my kids and pets?
Yes. Products are APVMA registered, applied at label rates by a licensed technician, and the placement does as much of the safety work as the chemistry. Bait and dust go into wall voids, roof spaces and cracks. Spray goes along skirting boards and the external perimeter. A couple of hours and treated surfaces are dry. In an older Ipswich home there is one extra thing worth mentioning: if the kids play under the house, say so, because the subfloor is the part of the job we treat most thoroughly and we will handle it differently. Fish, birds, reptiles, chooks or a pet on medication just need a heads up. Licence 15229237, twenty million public liability. More on the residential page.
Do I need to leave the house?
No, you stay. Keep kids and pets out of rooms as they are treated and off external surfaces until dry, one to two hours, and that is it. No day off required. Access is the thing that actually affects the quality of the job here: the roof void hatch, the subfloor entry, and the perimeter, particularly down the side where the fence sits tight to the wall. In an older home the subfloor is the most important part of the visit, so if the access panel has been screwed shut or the space is full of stored gear, tell us when you book and we will plan around it rather than discovering it on the day. Phone 1300 545 489, or the quote form works just as well.
How quickly can you get to Ipswich?
Same day or next, Saturdays included. This is home ground, so Booval, Bundamba, Brassall, Raceview, Flinders View, Yamanto and Karalee are all short runs rather than special trips. Phone 1300 545 489 and you will be given the actual next available appointment instead of being added to a list. Anything urgent, say it on the call: rats in the roof, a wasp nest by the door, termite damage you just found in a skirting board. It moves up. We are out to Ripley and Springfield Lakes most weeks and can usually fold you into the same run.
I already sprayed and it did not work. Can you still help?
Yes, and it is a very common starting point rather than something to be embarrassed about. Supermarket sprays are repellents, so they scatter rather than kill. With cockroaches the survivors go deeper into wall voids and appliance motors. With ants the colony splits and you get trails in two new places a fortnight later. Baits fail when the bait is wrong for the species, because nothing gets carried back to the queen. Tell us what you used and where you applied it, because that narrows the species and the spread more than you would think, and then the full residential treatment goes after the harbourage rather than the surface you already sprayed.
What is covered by the 12-month warranty?
Twelve months on every general pest treatment, no conditions buried in a footnote. What we treated for returns inside that window, we come back and re-treat at no charge. Cover applies to the pests listed on your certificate, so a standard treatment means ants, cockroaches, spiders and silverfish. Termite work, rodent baiting and bed bugs are quoted and warranted on their own because they run to different cycles. One thing worth understanding: even a correctly installed barrier does not stop termites reaching your land. The National Construction Code frames a management system as reducing the risk of concealed entry, which is exactly why the annual inspection is the real protection. The exact wording lives in our terms and conditions.
Do you do pre-purchase and pre-sale inspections in Ipswich?
Yes, and given the age of the housing here they earn their fee more often than not. A timber pest inspection tells you what is living in the subfloor, the roof void and the frame before you sign, which is the difference between negotiating on a known figure and inheriting one. We work for buyers, sellers, agents and property managers, and the written report with photos comes back the same day so it is actually usable inside a building and pest clause. Managing rentals or a body corporate? The real estate and body corporate page covers scheduling, entry notices and reporting. Shops, cafés and childcare centres are on the commercial page. Council’s Bremer catchment information is useful if the property backs onto a creek.
