Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN RACEVIEW
Raceview is the busiest suburb in this part of Ipswich for us, and the reason is the housing mix. It holds close to 9,699 people in about 3,900 dwellings, and 16.9 per cent of those are townhouses or semi-detached, which is roughly four times the attached share of neighbouring Flinders View or Yamanto. Two retirement villages on Cascade Street and Cemetery Road add to that. Nearly 40 per cent of homes here are rented, the highest of the three adjoining suburbs, so a lot of our work comes through agents and property managers rather than owners.
The suburb sits between two creeks. Bundamba Creek runs along the eastern side, and Deebing Creek takes the lower-reach drainage that Ipswich City Council describes as extensively developed. Small Creek runs through the middle, and it has a story worth knowing: concreted into a bare drain in the early 1980s, then naturalised between 2018 and 2023 with over 150,000 plants including Queensland blue gum. That is a lot of new vegetation and permanent water threading through a residential suburb.
Council also names South Station Road, Raceview as one of only four mosquito breeding hotspots it publicly identifies across the whole city. Between that, two creeks and a naturalised waterway, mosquito and rodent pressure here is genuinely higher than the surrounding suburbs.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN RACEVIEW
Termites do more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms combined, and no insurance policy covers the repair. The high hazard band of the CSIRO national survey covers Ipswich. Raceview has the deepest history of the three adjoining suburbs, with a convict-era farm here from 1828, a racecourse from around 1850 and the state school from 1901, but its population was only 428 in 1933 and 8,685 by 2011. So the old village core around Cascade Street and Cemetery Road sits alongside decades of later housing, and the two need different treatment.
The inspection runs about 90 minutes. Roof void, subfloor where there is one, internal walls, the full external perimeter, fence lines, retaining walls, stumps and yard timber, with a moisture meter and thermal camera reading behind the linings. On the older homes we look hard at ant capping and ground clearance under the bearers. On the newer estate housing we check whether landscaping has bridged the slab edge, which is the fault we find most often on any house built in the last thirty years.
One genuinely local factor: the Aberdare Extended No.1 Colliery opened on the eastern edge near Bundamba Creek in 1909 and its ruins are still visible from Owen Street. Old workings mean backfilled ground and buried timber on some blocks, and Coptotermes nests in buried timber and forages up to 50 metres out. We map it rather than assume it.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes with a wand around the outside is not a treatment. Inside comes first: kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then the roof void and the floor cavity if there is one.
In a Raceview townhouse or villa the work extends into the shared structure, because with nearly one in five dwellings attached here that is where the population actually lives. We treat the roof space above the ceiling line, the wall either side of the party wall, the service penetrations and the bin area. In the retirement villages we work to whatever access and notice arrangement the village manager needs, and we keep products and placement appropriate to residents who may be home all day.
Outside covers the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, plus a walk of the yard for standing water, since council has this suburb on its mosquito hotspot list. Webbing and wasp nests come down and voids get dust or bait. Most jobs run 60 to 90 minutes, with the certificate emailed the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Raceview Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Raceview?
It depends on whether you have a house, a townhouse or a villa, and the price is fixed before we book. Raceview has far more attached housing than the suburbs around it, and a two-bedroom villa is a smaller job than a four-bedroom house with a subfloor, so one advertised number would be wrong for a lot of people here. Ring 1300 545 489, tell us the property type and what you are seeing, and you will get the real figure on the call at no cost. For context: this region sits in a high termite risk zone per CSIRO, and termite damage is uninsured. Our 365 Pest Protection Plans spread it.
I manage rentals in Raceview. How do you handle it?
Straightforwardly, and this suburb is a big part of our property management work, since close to 40 per cent of Raceview homes are rented. We coordinate access directly with the tenant once you give us the go-ahead, work to the notice periods, and get the paperwork back the same day with photos so it lands in your file rather than three weeks later. That photo record matters when you need to show an owner why something was recommended, or evidence the condition of a property at a point in time. Portfolios can run on a set cycle so you are not chasing individual bookings. Ring 1300 545 489 and we will set the schedule up once.
Do you treat townhouses and villas, or only houses?
Both, and in an attached dwelling the framing matters. We can treat your lot alone and it will help, but in a shared building cockroaches and rodents move through the roof cavity, the party wall and plumbing penetrations, so treating one villa while the rest of the complex goes untouched means the population refills over the following months. The better answer in a complex is a coordinated treatment through the body corporate, which works out cheaper per lot than four owners each paying separately twice a year. We will give you a figure for the whole complex so you have something concrete for a committee meeting. Details are on our commercial and body corporate page.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Raceview?
Twelve months at a minimum. The QBCC recommends a licensed pest controller inspect and report on your property every year, or more often in high hazard areas, and Ipswich is one. Which end of Raceview you are in changes the interval we would suggest. If you are in the older core around Cascade Street or Cemetery Road, or anywhere near the old colliery ground on the eastern edge, six to nine months is the safer call. If you are in newer estate housing, annually is fine but get one done after any landscaping, because bridging the slab edge with a garden bed is the fastest way to undo a barrier. Book an inspection.
Why are the mosquitoes worse here than the next suburb over?
Because you have more water. Ipswich City Council names South Station Road, Raceview among only four mosquito breeding hotspots it publicly identifies across the entire city. On top of that, Bundamba Creek runs down the eastern side, Deebing Creek takes the lower-reach drainage, and Small Creek was naturalised between 2018 and 2023 with over 150,000 plants and permanent water through the middle of the suburb. That naturalisation is genuinely good for the waterway, and it also means more vegetation and standing water in a residential area. Council treats public land and monitors around 200 sites. Your gutters, pot plant bases and tank overflow are yours, and we deal with those.
How quickly can you get to Raceview?
Same day or next, Saturdays included. Raceview is minutes from the middle of Ipswich and it is one of our busiest suburbs, so we are here most days rather than making a trip out. Ring 1300 545 489 and you get the genuine next available appointment instead of a place on a list. Flag anything urgent on the call and it moves up: rats in the roof, a wasp nest by the door, termite damage you have just uncovered. If you are an agent needing access coordinated with a tenant, say so and we will handle the notice and the arrangements rather than pushing that back to you.
I sprayed the villa and they were back in a month. Why?
Yes, and in an attached dwelling it was always going to be an uphill battle. Supermarket surface sprays are repellents, so they scatter the population instead of killing the colony, and in a townhouse with a shared roof cavity the survivors move a few metres and come straight back. German cockroaches go deeper into wall voids and appliance motors and get harder to treat every time. Ant baits fail when the bait type does not suit the species, because the workers never carry it back to the queen. Tell us what you used and where you put it, because it narrows the species and the spread, then the full residential treatment goes after the harbourage.
Does the warranty cover my villa or the whole complex?
Twelve months on every general pest treatment. If the pests we treated for return inside that window we come back and re-treat at no cost, without a debate. Cover follows the pests named on your certificate, so a standard job means ants, cockroaches, spiders and silverfish. Termite work, rodent baiting and bed bugs are quoted and warranted separately. Two things specific to Raceview. In an attached dwelling the warranty covers the lot we treated, so cockroaches arriving from an untreated unit next door are a re-infestation from outside your boundary rather than a treatment failure, and we will say so plainly. And mosquitoes are not warranted, because the breeding habitat is largely on public land. The terms and conditions carry the exact wording.
