Our Local KNowledge

COMMON PESTS IN SOUTH MACLEAN

South Maclean was formerly part of a single Maclean locality that split into North and South Maclean in 1997, tied to a district economy that historically centred on grazing, dairying and timber-getting. It came into Logan City with the rest of the former Shire of Beaudesert in March 2008, and its boundary expanded eastward again in September 2017, absorbing land that had previously been part of Jimboomba.

Queensland Places specifically notes that South Maclean’s rural acreages are promoted as being among the few horse-friendly areas in Logan City, a genuine and citable point of difference from the more standard rural-residential blocks in neighbouring localities. The Logan River forms part of the northern and southern boundary and runs through the area, and population growth here has been sharper than almost anywhere else in this group, up roughly two-thirds between 2016 and 2021.

There are no schools within South Maclean itself, with families relying on Flagstone, Jimboomba and Greenbank schools nearby. Between the horse and acreage character, river frontage and rapid recent growth, pest pressure here spans everything from established rural properties to newly built homes on recently subdivided land, each carrying a different history of pest and termite exposure.

Termites

TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN SOUTH MACLEAN

More Australian homes are damaged by termites each year than by fire, flood and storms combined, and no insurer picks up the bill. The CSIRO national termite survey rates this region high hazard, and a rural acreage property on the Logan River carries substantially more of that risk than a standard suburban block. Coptotermes acinaciformis nests around stumps and tree bases and forages as far as 50 metres away, common conditions on a horse or acreage property with paddock trees and fence posts throughout.

On a horse or acreage property the inspection has to cover more than the house itself: stables, yards and paddock fencing near the river, alongside the roof void, subfloor, internal walls and external perimeter, all read with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing needs opening up.

For newer homes on recently subdivided land, we will also be upfront about what an original builder’s termite management system does and does not cover going forward. The QBCC recommends annual inspections as a minimum in high hazard areas for new and established properties alike.

What you get

What's Included in a Pest Treatment

Walking around the outside with a spray wand for ten minutes does not count as a treatment. The job starts inside, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then continues up into the roof space and down into the subfloor where there is one.

Outside covers the full perimeter, stables, sheds, fence lines and garden beds, with webbing and wasp nests taken down and dust or bait pushed into voids no spray will reach. On a river-frontage or horse property we extend the check to stables and paddock structures, not just the house.

Larger acreage and horse properties take longer than a standard house, and we will tell you honestly on the day roughly how much. We email the certificate the same day and set a reminder so you are not relying on memory.

Frequently Asked Questions

South Maclean Pest Control FAQs

The things people ask us most before they book.

How much does pest control cost in South Maclean?

It depends heavily on the property, a horse or acreage block is a different job to a standard house. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property and roughly how much land it sits on, and what we quote is what you pay, free either way.

Do you treat horse properties and stables?

Yes, and it is a normal part of our work in South Maclean given the area is promoted as one of the few horse-friendly acreage districts in Logan City. We check stables, sheds and paddock structures as part of the inspection, not just the house.

We're on the Logan River. What should we expect?

More mosquito activity after rain, more rodent and spider movement along the bank, and a genuine termite risk wherever paddock trees and fence-line timber sit close to the house. It is a normal part of owning riverside acreage here and mainly changes where we focus attention on the day.

My home is newly built. Do I still need a termite inspection?

Yes. A new termite management system is not a guarantee against future activity, it is a barrier with a working life, and the QBCC recommends annual inspections regardless of a property’s age in high hazard areas, which this region is rated. Book a termite inspection and we will set your reminder from day one.

How often should I get a termite inspection in South Maclean?

Every 12 months at a minimum, more often for river-frontage acreage. This region is rated high hazard by CSIRO’s national termite survey.

How quickly can you get to South Maclean?

Usually same or next day, and we work Saturdays too. Ring 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent, a wasp nest, scratching in the roof, or termite damage just found, and it moves up the run.

What does the 12-month warranty cover?

Every general pest treatment carries a full year, and anything named on your certificate that reappears in that time gets re-treated free. Termite work and rodent baiting are priced and warranted on their own terms. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
