Our Local KNowledge

COMMON PESTS IN AUGUSTINE HEIGHTS

This is one of the newest suburbs anywhere in the greater Ipswich area. Augustine Heights was officially named and bounded on 19 September 2003, part of Greater Springfield, and St Augustine’s College opened on 29 January that same year, eight months ahead of the suburb’s formal gazettal. The growth numbers are startling: 28 residents in 2006, 1,972 by 2011, 4,880 in 2016 and 6,088 in 2021. House and land sales were promoted heavily from 2009 onward.

Because everything here is new, the suburb has no heritage listings, no industrial precinct and no mining history. The one heritage-adjacent feature is St Monica’s Chapel, relocated from Laravale in 2003, which now serves the college and the wider community. Schools came with the housing: Augusta State School in 2011, Woogaroo Creek State School in January 2023, alongside St Augustine’s College running Prep to Year 12. There is no government secondary school in the suburb and no railway station, with the Springfield line terminating at Springfield Central next door.

Woogaroo Creek forms the western boundary with linear park reserves running alongside it, and the Centenary Highway marks the southern edge. That creek corridor and its linear parkland is the main source of pressure moving in from outside, bringing spiders, rodents and the occasional snake along the reserve line. Everything else here is the standard profile of a new estate: ants finding their way in at slab edges, cockroaches around kitchens and bins, and wasps setting up under new eaves.

Termites

TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN AUGUSTINE HEIGHTS

Termites cost Australian homeowners more each year than fire, flood and storm damage combined, and it sits outside every standard insurance policy. The CSIRO national termite survey lists this region as high hazard. A new suburb does not get an exemption from that, and the assumption that it does is the main reason we end up finding established activity in homes that owners considered too new to bother checking.

The inspection covers the roof void, the subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the complete external perimeter, fence lines and yard timber, read with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing needs opening. On slab-on-ground homes the critical areas are the slab edge, weep holes and the inspection zone that a physical barrier depends on staying visible. Coptotermes acinaciformis forages up to 50 metres from its nest, and the creek corridor on the western boundary supplies the habitat for one.

The single most common problem we find in suburbs like this one is landscaping. Raised garden beds, new paving, added soil and mulch banked against the wall will bridge a perimeter barrier or bury the inspection zone, and it usually happens gradually over several years of improving the yard. We will show you exactly where it is a problem if it is. The QBCC sets annual inspection as the minimum standard for high hazard areas.

What you get

What's Included in a Pest Treatment

Spraying around the outside walls for ten minutes is not a treatment. We work indoors first, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then move up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where there is one.

Externally we cover the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, taking down webbing and wasp nests and pushing dust or bait into voids surface spray never reaches. On newer homes we also check anything added since handover, retaining, decking, paving and raised beds, since post-handover landscaping is where most barrier problems begin.

Most homes here are larger than average and run toward the 90 minute end. The certificate is emailed the same day with your next reminder set so it does not slip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Augustine Heights Pest Control FAQs

The things people ask us most before they book.

How much does pest control cost in Augustine Heights?

Homes here run larger than average, so the quote follows the property rather than a flat rate. Call 1300 545 489, describe the house, and the number we give you is the number you pay. The quote is free. If the home is only a few years old it is still worth asking about a termite inspection, for the reason in the next answer.

My home is nearly new. Is a termite inspection really necessary?

Yes, and this is the most common question we get in this suburb. A builder’s termite management system is a barrier with a defined working life and, in many cases, maintenance conditions attached to it. It is not a permanent seal. Several types stop functioning as intended if landscaping covers the inspection zone, and none of them stop a colony that gets in through an unprotected path. New housing means lower risk, not no risk, and the difference is worth one visit a year.

Is Augustine Heights part of Springfield Lakes?

No, though they sit within Greater Springfield together and people use the names interchangeably. Augustine Heights was named and bounded as its own suburb in 2003, on the Ipswich City Council side, with Woogaroo Creek to the west and the Centenary Highway to the south. We service both, so if you are not sure which side of a boundary you fall on, give us the street address and we will confirm it.

How often should I get a termite inspection in Augustine Heights?

Annually. The QBCC’s guidance is a yearly inspection at minimum where the hazard rating is high and CSIRO’s national termite survey grades this region high hazard. Book a termite inspection and we will set your reminder from the first visit so the schedule runs itself.

We've just finished landscaping. Should we have it checked?

It is a very good time to, and most people do not think of it. New garden beds, paving, retaining and added soil around the house can bridge a perimeter barrier or hide the inspection zone a physical system relies on. A quick look after significant landscaping tells you whether your protection is still doing its job, and if there is an issue it is far easier to fix in the weeks after the work than years later.

How quickly can you get to Augustine Heights?

Usually same or next day, Saturdays included, and the Centenary Highway makes access straightforward. Ring 1300 545 489 and let us know if it is urgent, whether that is a wasp nest near an entry, something in the roof, or activity you have just spotted.

What does the 12-month warranty cover?

A full year of cover on every general pest treatment, so any pest listed on your certificate that returns within that time is re-treated free. Termite work and rodent baiting are quoted on their own and warranted on their own. Our terms and conditions carry the full detail.
