Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN BELMONT
People tend to read Belmont as a small modern pocket sitting beside Carindale. It is precisely the other way round. Belmont was the shire, taking its name from Belmont House built around 1860 by Colonel August Bernecker, from the French Bellemont meaning beautiful mountain. The Belmont Shire ran from Coorparoo out to Capalaba until it was folded into Greater Brisbane in 1925, and Carindale was carved out of Belmont as recently as 1980.
The land has been worked hard and in several different ways. Hoop pine timber-getting came first from the 1850s, then sugar cane along the creeks through the 1860s and 70s, and when southern Queensland sugar faded the farmers moved to pineapples, bananas, tomatoes, potatoes and grapes, along with dairy and fodder. There were wool scouring, fellmongery and tannery operations here too. A steam tramway ran from Belmont to Norman Park via Seven Hills from 1912, never induced the subdivisions it was built to sell, lost money throughout and closed at amalgamation. It was the Gateway Motorway in 1986 that finally redrew the boundaries and triggered modern residential growth.
What all that leaves is a suburb with fifteen parks and bushland reserves for under 4,500 people, Mount Petrie at around 169 metres in the south, and Belmont Hills Bushland, which Brisbane City Council lists as a reserve where koalas are found in natural habitat. Living against genuine eucalypt bushland on a large lot changes what comes across the fence. Spiders, rodents, possums and wasps all move along the reserve boundary, and the termite picture is a different conversation entirely from a fully built-out street.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN BELMONT
Each year termites do more damage to Australian homes than fire, flood and storms combined, and no insurer covers the repair. CSIRO national termite survey marks this region high hazard, and Belmont sits at the sharper end of that. This was hoop pine country before it was farmland and it is bushland reserve now, which means mature eucalypts, stumps and standing dead timber within easy reach of most properties.
On a large Belmont block the inspection takes in the roof void, subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the full perimeter, fence lines, sheds, retaining walls and any timber in the yard, all assessed with a moisture meter and thermal camera. Where a property adjoins reserve land we work that boundary hard, because Coptotermes acinaciformis nests in stumps and tree bases and forages up to 50 metres out, and a reserve full of mature eucalypts is a colony’s preferred address.
We are also deliberate about product choice and placement near the reserve edge, because this is active koala and wildlife habitat and it deserves better than a blanket approach. That is a genuine constraint on how we work in Belmont rather than a talking point. The QBCC’s guidance is a yearly inspection at minimum where the hazard rating is high, and a reserve-backing property in Belmont is a straightforward case for the shorter end of that interval.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
A few minutes around the outside with a spray wand is not what we mean by a treatment. Indoors is covered first, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, before we move up into the roof cavity and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Outside, the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds all get worked, webbing and wasp nests come down, and dust or bait goes into voids a surface spray cannot get near. On a reserve-adjoining Belmont property we walk the rear boundary specifically, because stacked firewood, mulch heaps and garden clippings against that fence are effectively a staging post for everything coming out of the bush.
Bigger blocks take longer than a standard suburban house and we will give you an honest estimate on the day rather than pretending otherwise. The certificate is emailed that afternoon and we set your next reminder before we leave.

Frequently Asked Questions
Belmont Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Belmont?
Block size drives it more here than anywhere else nearby, along with whether you adjoin reserve land. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property and roughly how much ground it sits on, and the quote we give is the price you pay. It costs nothing to get one. Mention the reserve boundary if you have one, because it genuinely changes what we look at.
We back onto Belmont Hills Bushland. What comes across the fence?
A fair bit, and most of it is not a problem in itself. This is real eucalypt bushland with koalas recorded in it, not a neglected strip of scrub, so you get spiders and rodents working the boundary, more wasp activity, and a genuine termite risk from mature trees sitting well inside foraging range of your fence line. The sensible response is a shorter inspection cycle and a clear boundary, not anxiety about living there. It is one of the better addresses in Brisbane’s east for a reason.
Are you careful about koalas and other wildlife?
Yes, and it affects how we do the job rather than just what we say about it. Near the reserve edge we are selective about which products go where, and we favour targeted placement into voids and specific harbourage over broad external application. If you have wildlife regularly moving through your yard, tell us on the call and we will plan the treatment around it.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Belmont?
Twelve months as a floor, and every six to nine months where the property backs directly onto bushland. CSIRO’s national termite survey rates this part of Queensland high hazard and the QBCC recommends annual inspections in exactly those conditions. Book a termite inspection and we will hold the reminder.
Is Belmont newer than Carindale?
No, and it is a common assumption worth correcting. Belmont is the older place by more than a century. It gave its name to the Belmont Shire, which covered everything from Coorparoo to Capalaba until 1925, and Carindale was subdivided out of Belmont in 1980. Belmont State School, which opened in 1876, now technically sits inside Carindale’s boundaries, which adds to the confusion.
How quickly can you get to Belmont?
Typically same day or the next, and we do work Saturdays. Call 1300 545 489 and say if something needs attention now, a wasp nest by the door, noise in the roof at night, or damage you have just found in a shed or retaining wall.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
A full twelve months on every general pest treatment, with free re-treatment if a pest named on your certificate reappears in that time. Termite work and rodent programs run on independent quotes and warranties. The whole of it is covered in our terms and conditions.
