Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN CARINA
Carina takes its name from an 1850s estate on Creek Road held by Ebenezer Thorne, who named it after his daughter Kate Carina. For a suburb that now reads as newer than Carindale next door, it is actually the older place by a long way: Carina was the main settlement of Belmont Shire between 1888 and 1925 and held the shire offices, the post office opened in 1889, and 275 allotments went under the hammer that May.
What turned it from farmland into a suburb was the tram. The Brisbane network reached Carina in 1948, and a stretch of those original tracks on Old Cleveland Road survives on the Queensland Heritage Register as one of the last visible remnants of the system. Heavy Housing Commission construction through the 1950s and 60s followed, which is why so much of the older stock here is modest, closely spaced and built to a common pattern, and why the townhouse infill that came later sat so easily on top of it.
Geographically Carina is split down the middle. The eastern side is flat Bulimba Creek floodplain, with the Minnippi Parklands and their reed-lined lagoons running through it, and the Clem Jones Centre sitting on ground that was swampland before it was a sporting complex. The west climbs toward Seven Hills and Camp Hill. That gives us two different jobs in one suburb: damp, low-lying, mosquito-prone and rodent-friendly in the east, and drier elevated blocks in the west where ants and spiders dominate the call sheet.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN CARINA
Termites wreck more Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms put together, and the repair bill falls entirely on the owner. CSIRO’s survey of national termite hazard places this region at the high end, and Carina’s eastern floodplain adds a layer on top of that, since consistent ground moisture is exactly what a subterranean colony is looking for.
We go through the roof space, the subfloor where there is one, internal walls, the full perimeter, fence lines and yard timber, using a moisture meter and thermal camera rather than cutting into anything. In a townhouse or a unit complex the job widens: we assess the shared roof space and the party walls as well, because a colony inside a block of six does not politely confine itself to the lot that called us.
That shared-building point is worth spelling out, because it catches people. If you own a townhouse in Carina and your neighbour has activity, it is your problem too, and a treatment on one lot alone is often money half spent. We will tell you honestly when a job needs to go to the body corporate rather than the individual owner. The QBCC puts the minimum at one inspection a year in high hazard areas, whichever side of that line your property falls on.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes and a wand around the outside walls does not qualify as a treatment. The work starts inside, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then continues up into the roof cavity and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Externally we cover the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, clearing webbing and wasp nests and pushing dust or bait into voids a spray will never penetrate. In a townhouse complex we coordinate access across the lots that need it rather than treating one unit in isolation and hoping for the best.
A standard visit runs 60 to 90 minutes. The certificate is emailed the same day, formatted for a property file where the job is a rental, and we set a reminder so the next one does not get forgotten between tenancies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Carina Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Carina?
It comes down to whether we are treating a house, a townhouse or a unit, and what the inspection finds. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the place, and what we quote is what you pay, with no charge for the quote itself. If you are in a complex, mention that on the call, because it can change how the job is best arranged.
I own a townhouse. Do I need the body corporate involved?
Sometimes, and we will tell you straight when that is the case. Treatment inside your own lot is yours to arrange. Anything involving the shared roof space, party walls, common property or a problem clearly moving between units usually needs to go through the body corporate to be worth doing. Half a job on a shared building is not really a job, and we would rather say so up front than take the money.
Is the eastern side of Carina really on a floodplain?
Yes. Eastern Carina sits on the Bulimba Creek floodplain and is covered by Brisbane City Council’s Bulimba Creek flood study. For a property-specific answer, Council’s FloodWise Property Report is the tool to use rather than anything we could tell you. From a pest point of view the practical effect is steady ground moisture, which lifts both mosquito activity after rain and the appeal of your subfloor to a termite colony.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Carina?
Annually at minimum, and worth tightening if you are on the low eastern side near the creek. The QBCC’s recommendation is annual inspection and reporting wherever the hazard rating is high, which this region is under CSIRO national termite survey marks this region high hazard. Book a termite inspection and we will hold the date.
I manage rentals in Carina. Can you provide reports for the file?
Yes, and it is a large part of our work here given a third of the suburb rents. You get a written, dated report suitable for the property file, lease renewal or sale, not just a conversation on the doorstep. If you look after several properties in the area we can put them on one recurring schedule so nothing slips between tenancies.
How quickly can you get to Carina?
Generally same day or next, Saturdays included. Phone 1300 545 489 and tell us if it is urgent, and it moves forward in the run. That applies to tenants reporting something too, though the booking itself normally has to come through the manager or owner.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
General pest treatments come with twelve months of cover, meaning anything named on your certificate that returns during the year is re-treated free. Termite treatment and rodent baiting sit on their own quote and their own warranty. You will find the full wording in our terms and conditions.
