Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN LINDUM
The first thing to be straight about is that Lindum is not a suburb in its own right. It ceased to be a separate suburb on 16 August 1975 and is now a neighbourhood in the north-west of Wynnum West. That matters practically, because there is no Australian Bureau of Statistics record for Lindum at locality level. Any page quoting Lindum census data is using a postcode or a commercial estimate rather than actual census figures, and we would rather tell you that than invent a demographic profile to fill the space.
The name is a good one. Lindum comes from Lindum railway station, itself named in 1899 after the residence of ironmonger Edward Kelk, who named his property for Lindum, the Roman name for Lincoln in England. European settlement in the wider area began in the 1860s around agriculture and viticulture, stayed sparse until the 1880s and 90s, and expanded substantially after the Second World War. Lindum Camp, at Sibley Road and Fordel Street, was a large Jagera and Quandamooka campsite and is described as the only Aboriginal fishing reserve ever created in the southern Brisbane region.
The station opened in 1889 on the Cleveland line and remains the anchor of the area. It closed for an accessibility upgrade through 2024 and reopened in December that year. The Lindum level crossing is a known hazard with a serious safety history, and it is worth mentioning here simply because it is the thing most people associate with the name. For pest control purposes, this is bayside Wynnum West housing: a mix of older timber homes and post-war stock, with the associated ant, cockroach, spider and rodent pressure of any long-settled coastal suburb.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN LINDUM
Termites wreck more Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storm damage combined, and no policy covers it. The CSIRO national termite survey scores this region high hazard. Around Lindum the risk is driven by housing age more than anything else, since this is a long-settled part of the bayside with a good deal of older timber stock that predates modern termite management.
On an older timber home the subfloor does most of the talking, so we spend proper time under the house on stumps, bearers, joists and ant caps, alongside the roof void, internal walls, the full perimeter and yard timber, all read with a moisture meter and thermal camera. Coptotermes acinaciformis builds its nest in stumps and tree bases and ranges up to 50 metres out, and long-established blocks around here frequently have an old stump still in the ground.
Bomparpin Swamp is the wetland associated with this area, though we could not verify specific flood mapping for the Lindum pocket itself, so we are not going to assert one. If flood exposure matters for your address, Brisbane City Council’s FloodWise Property Report is the tool. What we can tell you is what ground moisture and housing age mean for termite risk on your particular block. The QBCC advises no longer than twelve months between inspections in high hazard areas.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes with a wand around the outside walls is not a treatment. The work starts indoors, covering the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then continues up into the roof cavity and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Outside we work the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, clearing webbing and wasp nests and placing dust or bait into voids that spraying alone will miss. On the older timber homes here we also treat stumps and the ground beneath, since that is generally where activity starts on that style of house.
Most homes run 60 to 90 minutes, longer where the subfloor is extensive. The certificate is emailed the same day, formatted for a property file where the home is rented, with the next reminder set.

Frequently Asked Questions
Lindum Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Lindum?
House size and age set it, and an older high-set home with a full subfloor takes longer than a smaller post-war house. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property, and what we quote is what you pay, free to obtain. Given how much older housing there is around here, a termite inspection is worth asking about on the same call.
Is Lindum actually a suburb?
Not since 1975. Lindum was absorbed into Wynnum West on 16 August that year and is now a neighbourhood in the north-west of it rather than a gazetted suburb. This is genuinely useful to know, because any website quoting Lindum census data is working from a postcode or a modelled estimate rather than real Bureau of Statistics figures, which do not exist at that level. We service the area exactly the same either way, and we cover all of Wynnum West.
Where does the name come from?
Lindum is the Roman name for Lincoln in England. The railway station was named in 1899 after the residence of an ironmonger, Edward Kelk, who had named his property Lindum. So a bayside Brisbane neighbourhood carries a Roman British place name via a nineteenth century house name. It is one of the better naming stories in this part of the city.
How often should I get a termite inspection around Lindum?
Annually. The QBCC calls for annual inspection and reporting in areas carrying a high hazard rating and CSIRO’s national termite survey sets this region at high hazard. The age of a lot of the housing here is the main driver, since older timber homes predate termite management systems entirely. Book a termite inspection and the next one gets flagged automatically.
My house is an old timber home. Is that a problem?
It cuts both ways and the balance is reasonable. Older timber housing gives a colony more to work with, and stumps, bearers and joists are all vulnerable. But a high-set home with an accessible subfloor is far easier to inspect properly than a modern slab, where activity can travel inside a wall cavity with nothing visible until it is well advanced. Higher risk, better detection, which means regular inspection actually works on this housing type.
How quickly can you get to Lindum?
Same day or next in most cases, weekends included. Call 1300 545 489 and say if it is urgent, a wasp nest by the door, scratching overhead, or something you have just found under the house, and we will bring it forward.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
A full year on every general pest treatment, and any pest named on your certificate that returns in that time is re-treated at no charge. Termite work and rodent baiting are quoted and warranted separately. Everything is laid out in our terms and conditions.
