Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN NORTH BOOVAL
Geography is the whole story in North Booval. The suburb is bounded to the north and west by the Bremer River, to the east by Bundamba Creek, and to the south by the Main Line railway. Water on three sides, in three square kilometres, at a density of over a thousand people per square kilometre. There is no other suburb in this part of Ipswich arranged quite like it.
The consequences are documented rather than theoretical. In 1974 the Bridge Street church was used to store the contents of flooded homes. In January 2011 low-lying areas near both waterways went under, including a retirement village on Gledson Street. After the February 2022 event Ipswich City Council reported 535 buildings impacted across the whole city, of which 418 were in Goodna, Bundamba and North Booval. This suburb was one of the three worst affected in the local government area. For the record, the Bremer at Ipswich peaked at 19.40 metres in January 2011 and 16.70 in February 2022, against a record 24.50 metres in 1893.
The name comes from Booval House, the residence of Ipswich bank manager George Faircloth, with Booval itself reported to derive from an Aboriginal expression referring to a frilled lizard. North Booval as a residential area is much newer than that suggests, developed from the mid-1970s spreading north from the railway line, which is why the housing feels more recent than neighbouring Booval and why there is more townhouse and unit stock here than elsewhere nearby.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN NORTH BOOVAL
More Australian homes are damaged by termites each year than by fire, flood and storms combined, and insurance covers none of it. The CSIRO national termite survey records this region as high hazard. In North Booval the repeat flooding is what makes the difference, because timber that has been wet and dried more than once is softer and considerably more appealing to a colony than timber that has stayed dry.
Our inspection covers the roof void, the subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the full external perimeter, fence lines and yard timber, using a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing needs opening up. On a previously inundated home we look hardest at the depth the water reached, how long the subfloor stayed wet afterwards, and whether repairs introduced fresh timber into a frame that had not finished drying. Coptotermes acinaciformis forages up to 50 metres from its nest, and the creek and river corridors either side supply plenty of nesting habitat.
In a townhouse or unit we extend the scope to the shared roof space and party walls, because activity in one dwelling of an attached row is a problem for all of them. The QBCC’s published minimum is a yearly licensed inspection in high hazard areas, and a flood-affected property sits at the shorter end of that rather than the longer.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Spraying the outside walls for a few minutes is not a treatment. Inside is covered first, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, before we move up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where there is one.
Outside we work the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, taking down webbing and wasp nests and placing dust or bait into voids a surface spray cannot reach. On lower-lying blocks we give the subfloor, stumps and drainage proper attention rather than a glance, since that is where flood moisture lingers longest and where rodents shelter once water drops away.
Most homes take 60 to 90 minutes. The certificate is emailed the same day, suited to a property file where the home is tenanted, with the next reminder set.

Frequently Asked Questions
North Booval Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in North Booval?
The property and the findings decide it. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the home, and the number we quote is the number you pay, free either way. If the place took water in 2011 or 2022, mention it on the call, because it genuinely changes what we need to look at and how long the job takes.
Our house flooded in 2022. What does that mean for pests?
Two different things over two different timeframes. In the first weeks, displaced rodents move into dry buildings and cockroach numbers climb while drains and wall cavities stay damp. The slower problem is termites: repeatedly wetted timber softens and becomes more attractive to a colony, subfloor moisture takes far longer to clear than most people expect, and repairs often put fresh timber into a structure that has not finished drying. An inspection six to twelve months after a flood is genuinely worth arranging, and most owners are never told that.
Was North Booval really one of the worst-hit suburbs?
Yes, according to council’s own reporting. After the February 2022 event Ipswich City Council reported 535 buildings impacted across the city, with 418 of those in Goodna, Bundamba and North Booval. The geography explains it: the Bremer wraps the suburb on two sides and Bundamba Creek forms the third boundary. For your specific property, Ipswich City Council’s flood mapping will tell you far more than any suburb-level statement.
How often should I get a termite inspection in North Booval?
Twelve months as the floor, and every six to nine months for a lower-lying or flood-affected home. The QBCC advises no longer than twelve months between inspections in high hazard areas, which CSIRO’s national hazard survey rates the region high. Book in a termite inspection and we will prompt you when the next one is due.
I'm renting here. How do I get something dealt with?
Generally it needs to go through your property manager or owner, since they are who we invoice and who receives the certificate. With nearly half of North Booval rented, we deal with this constantly. Call us anyway if there is an active problem and we will tell you exactly what to put in writing to your manager, which usually moves things along faster than a general complaint.
How quickly can you get to North Booval?
Same day or next in most cases, weekends included. Ring 1300 545 489 and say if it is urgent. We do see a clear spike in rodent call-outs across this suburb after heavy rain, when water pushes them off the low ground, so if several neighbours are reporting the same thing, mention that too.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Twelve months on every general pest treatment, with free re-treatment of any listed pest that returns inside that period. Termite work and rodent programs run on independent quotes and warranties. The detail is all in our terms and conditions.
