Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN PARKINSON
Parkinson was named in June 1972 after Henry Parkinson, a railway engineer, and then essentially nothing happened for two decades. The 1991 census counted 155 residents. Urban development only started in the mid-1990s, the northern areas converted to low-density residential by 2003, the western development finished around 2008, and an industrial estate appeared in the south-eastern corner in 2009. By 2021 the population was 11,148. Very few Brisbane suburbs have gone from bush to a city-sized population in a single generation quite that abruptly.
The southern half of the suburb has not followed. Parkinson Bushland Reserve occupies the land below the Logan Motorway, a substantial area of retained remnant bush with walking circuits through it and a local reputation for glider habitat. That is the defining feature for our purposes, because it means a large number of Parkinson homes sit directly against undeveloped bushland rather than against another street. The motorway itself bisects the suburb, and the Sydney to Brisbane rail corridor forms the western boundary without ever providing a station.
Water runs through the north. Sheep Station Gully forms a linear park along the northern estates and drains north through Algester into Oxley Creek. Between the gully, the reserve and the undeveloped southern land, the pest picture here is really two suburbs in one: newer slab-on-ground housing with the ordinary ant and cockroach pressure of any modern estate, and a bushland interface along the southern and reserve-adjoining edges where spiders, rodents and termites are moving in from genuine habitat.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN PARKINSON
Termites do more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms together, and the cost falls outside every standard insurance policy. This region is rated high hazard in the CSIRO national termite survey identifies this region as high hazard. Parkinson carries two distinct risks at once: relatively young housing where original barriers are now reaching the end of their working life, and a large tract of retained bushland sitting immediately beside a lot of that housing.
The inspection covers the roof void, the subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the entire external perimeter, fence lines and yard timber, all read with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing has to be cut into. On a reserve-adjoining block we spend materially longer on the rear boundary, because Coptotermes acinaciformis nests in stumps and tree bases and forages up to 50 metres, and remnant bush is full of exactly that.
Because so much of Parkinson was built from the mid-1990s onward, we spend real time explaining what a builder’s original termite management system actually is. It is a barrier with a defined working life, not permanent protection, and plenty of owners here are relying on something installed twenty or more years ago. The QBCC recommends property owners in high hazard areas inspect every year without fail regardless of how new a house feels.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
A fast lap of the outside with a spray wand is not a treatment and never has been. We start inside, working the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then move up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where there is one.
Outside covers the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, with webbing and wasp nests removed and dust or bait placed into voids a surface spray will not reach. On properties backing the bushland reserve we also walk the rear boundary specifically, because timber stacks, mulch and clippings piled against that fence give everything crossing over somewhere to settle first.
Most homes take 60 to 90 minutes. The certificate is emailed the same day and we set the reminder for next time before we leave the property.

Frequently Asked Questions
Parkinson Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Parkinson?
It comes down to the size of the home and what the inspection turns up. Call 1300 545 489, describe the property, and the quote we give you is what you pay, at no cost to obtain. Do mention if you back onto the bushland reserve, because it changes what we look for and where we concentrate the treatment.
We back onto Parkinson Bushland Reserve. What should we expect?
More of everything that lives in bush, moving along your rear boundary. Practically that means spiders setting up in the fence line and eaves, rodents using the reserve as permanent habitat rather than passing through, more wasp activity, and a real termite risk from mature timber and stumps inside foraging distance of the house. It is a genuinely good place to live and none of that is a reason to worry, it just means a shorter inspection interval and a clear boundary are worth the effort.
My house was built in the 2000s. Is it too new to need a termite inspection?
No. This is the most common misunderstanding we run into in Parkinson, precisely because the suburb is so new. A termite management system installed when the house was built has a working life measured in years, not decades, and most of this suburb went up from the mid-1990s onward. A twenty-five-year-old house with an expired barrier beside a bushland reserve is not a low-risk property.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Parkinson?
Annually as the baseline, and every six to nine months if you adjoin the reserve. The QBCC’s published minimum is a yearly licensed inspection in high hazard areas and CSIRO’s national survey puts the region in its high hazard band. Book a termite inspection and we will keep track of the date for you.
Do you service the business park in the south-east of the suburb?
Yes. The industrial and logistics premises that went in from 2009 get the same treatment as any commercial site, mapped and numbered rodent stations, scheduling around operations, and documentation suited to lease or compliance requirements. Given the bushland sitting immediately alongside that estate, rodent pressure on those buildings is genuinely higher than a comparable site elsewhere. Details are on our commercial pest control page.
How quickly can you get to Parkinson?
Same day or the following one in most cases, and we do Saturdays. Ring 1300 545 489 and tell us if something is urgent, a wasp nest by an entry, scratching overhead, or damage just discovered, and we will bring it forward.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Every general treatment carries a full twelve months, so anything listed on your certificate that comes back inside that period is re-treated free of charge. Termite jobs and rodent baiting are quoted apart and warranted apart. See our terms and conditions for the complete wording.
