Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN RIVERVIEW
Riverview takes its name from the railway station, which opened in 1875 as Moggill Ferry and was renamed about six years later for the outlook across the river junction. The suburb followed the station. That original name still means something on the ground, because the Moggill Ferry is not a historical footnote here: it still runs as an on-demand vehicle ferry across the Brisbane River, a crossing of roughly three minutes, and it is one of the genuinely distinctive things about living in this pocket of Ipswich.
Worth correcting a common local error: Riverview is on the Brisbane River, not the Bremer. The Brisbane forms the north-eastern boundary. People in Ipswich understandably default to the Bremer when they talk about flooding, but the water that matters here comes from a different system. In January 2011 floodwater came through Bremer Junction and toward Riverview Gardens, while the railway station itself stayed above it. For a property-specific answer, Ipswich City Council’s flood mapping is the tool rather than any general statement we could make.
For most of its history the land here was agricultural, with the Salvation Army’s Riverview Training Farm operating from 1898 to 1977 as the defining institution. Residential Riverview is essentially a post-war suburb and later: the state school opened in 1977, St Peter Claver College in 1976, and a retirement village and housing estate were developed on the former farm grounds in the 1990s. That gives us housing of quite mixed vintage across a fairly small area, which is why we do not treat every job here the same way.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN RIVERVIEW
Termites do more damage to Australian homes in a year than fire, flood and storms put together, and no insurance policy covers the repair. The CSIRO national termite survey puts this region in its high hazard band. Riverview’s river frontage is the factor that lifts it further, because consistent ground moisture is the single biggest thing that makes a property worth approaching for a subterranean colony.
We work through the roof void, the subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the complete external perimeter, fence lines and any timber in the yard, reading it with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing has to be cut open. Closer to the river we extend the boundary check, since Coptotermes acinaciformis nests in stumps and tree bases and forages up to 50 metres.
Where a home is tenanted, and here that is roughly half of them, the report is written so a managing agent can file it, dated and specific enough to be useful at lease renewal or sale. Landlords should know that termite activity found late in a rental costs considerably more than activity found on a routine annual visit, simply because nobody living there is checking the subfloor. The QBCC recommends a licensed pest controller inspect and report on a property every year, or more often in high hazard areas.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
A quick lap of the outside with a spray wand is not a treatment, whatever it costs. We begin indoors and work the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then go up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where there is one.
Outside takes in the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, with webbing and wasp nests taken down and dust or bait placed into voids that no surface spray reaches. On the lower blocks nearer the river we give drainage and ground levels a proper look, since that is what drives most of the recurring problems at that end of the suburb.
Most homes run 60 to 90 minutes. The certificate goes out by email the same day, formatted for a property file where the home is rented, and several managed properties can sit on one recurring schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Riverview Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Riverview?
It depends on the property and what the inspection turns up, so we look before we quote rather than guessing over the phone. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the home, and the figure we give is the figure you pay. The quote itself is free. If it is a rental and you need a report for the file, say so when you book and we will format it that way.
Is Riverview on the Bremer River?
No, and it is an easy mistake in a city where the Bremer dominates every flood conversation. Riverview sits on the Brisbane River, which forms its north-eastern boundary, so its water comes from a different system to most Ipswich suburbs. Practically that matters for understanding where moisture and mosquito pressure actually originate on your block, and it is why we ask for a street address rather than working from the suburb name alone.
I manage rentals in Riverview. Can you provide reports for the file?
Yes, and with about half the suburb tenanted it is a routine part of our work here. You get a written, dated inspection or treatment report suited to the property file, lease renewal or sale, not just a conversation at the door. Multiple properties in the area can go onto one recurring schedule so nothing slips between tenancies.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Riverview?
Every twelve months at minimum, and worth tightening for properties closer to the river where ground moisture stays higher. The QBCC sets annual inspection as the minimum standard for high hazard areas and CSIRO’s national termite survey rates the region high hazard. Book a termite inspection and we will hold the reminder for you.
We're near the ferry crossing. Does that change anything?
Not the ferry itself, but the river does. Properties on the lower river-facing ground see more mosquito activity after rain, more rodent movement along the bank, and higher termite risk wherever mature riverside timber sits close to the house. None of that is unusual for river frontage anywhere in South East Queensland. It just means the inspection needs to pay attention to the boundary nearest the water rather than treating the block as a generic suburban lot.
How quickly can you get to Riverview?
Usually same day or the next, Saturdays included, and the Ipswich Motorway makes this an easy suburb to reach. Call 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent. Rodent call-outs here do climb after heavy rain, so if that is your situation mention it and we will try to bring you forward.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Every general pest treatment carries twelve months, so any pest named on your certificate that turns up again inside that window is re-treated at no charge. Termite treatment and rodent baiting sit on their own quote and their own warranty. The full wording is in our terms and conditions.
