Our Local KNowledge

COMMON PESTS IN SILVERBARK RIDGE

Silverbark Ridge was gazetted on 20 May 2016 out of what had previously been New Beith, and Logan City Council records that it is named after the silverbark trees found in the district. At 5.3 square kilometres it is the smallest of the three new localities created around Greater Flagstone at that time, the others being Monarch Glen and Riverbend, and it is by some distance the least developed of them.

The land is grazing country on native vegetation. Council notes that clearing here happened early relative to the surrounding area but that bushland remained dominant, and Thomas Lehane held much of the ground in the 1880s. Flagstone Creek forms the northern boundary, Round Mountain sits just over the border in New Beith, and the locality is bordered by New Beith, Lyons, Flagstone and Monarch Glen. A portion in the south east has been cleared with housing in prospect, but development here has barely begun and there is no built-out estate to speak of.

For our work that makes Silverbark Ridge the most straightforwardly rural of the new Logan localities. Bushland on native vegetation across most of the area, a permanent creek along the top boundary, elevated ridge ground and grazing land in between. Properties out here are few and far apart, which means the pest pressure comes almost entirely from the bush rather than from neighbours, and the structures on a block matter more than the block’s street address.

Termites

TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN SILVERBARK RIDGE

Termites take more from Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms together, and no insurer covers it. this region carries a high hazard rating in CSIRO’s national termite survey. A property surrounded by retained native vegetation sits at the top of that range, because the bush is not a neighbouring feature here. It is the property.

The inspection covers the roof void, subfloor, internal walls and full perimeter with a moisture meter and thermal camera, then works outward through sheds, tank stands, yards, fence lines, stacked firewood and the boundary where cleared ground meets timber. Coptotermes acinaciformis nests in stumps and the base of trees and forages up to 50 metres, and on grazing land carrying native vegetation that fifty-metre radius is almost always occupied.

The distinctive thing about long-grazed bushland country is what is left standing in it. Old fence lines run for hundreds of metres with timber posts in ground contact the whole way, stock yards and gates get replaced but the posts stay, and cleared trees leave stumps that were never pulled. Those are not incidental. On a block like this they are the most likely thing supporting a colony, and they are what we look at before we look at the house. The QBCC sets annual inspection as the minimum standard in high hazard areas.

What you get

What's Included in a Pest Treatment

A rural block does not get done in a quick pass and we scope it accordingly. The work starts indoors through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then continues up into the roof space and down into the subfloor where there is one.

Outdoors covers the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, clearing webbing and wasp nests and placing dust or bait into voids that spraying cannot reach. On a Silverbark Ridge property that means the sheds, tank stands, timber fence lines and the treeline get proper time, because with bush on most sides the boundary is where everything arrives from and the house is the last stop rather than the first.

Because properties out here are spread out, we will tell you honestly when we can get there rather than promising a window we cannot hold. The certificate is emailed the same day with your next reminder set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Silverbark Ridge Pest Control FAQs

The things people ask us most before they book.

How much does pest control cost in Silverbark Ridge?

Rural properties are quoted on the property, because how much land there is and how many structures sit on it matter more than the size of the house. Call 1300 545 489, describe the block and what is on it, and what we quote is what you pay. The quote is free, and telling us how heavily treed it is helps more than anything else.

Where exactly is Silverbark Ridge?

Between New Beith, Lyons, Flagstone and Monarch Glen, with Flagstone Creek along the northern boundary and Round Mountain just across the line in New Beith. It was gazetted on 20 May 2016 out of New Beith, so if you have owned land here a while your address may once have been a New Beith one. It is 5.3 square kilometres, which makes it small, and most of that is bush and grazing land.

Is Silverbark Ridge an estate?

No, and we want to be plain about this because a lot of property listings suggest otherwise. It is a gazetted suburb, named after the silverbark trees in the district. We could not find any named residential estate located in it. House and land listings advertised as being in Silverbark Ridge are generally drawn from surrounding suburbs by the listing site rather than sitting here. If you are buying, check the actual lot address.

Do you treat sheds and water tanks?

Yes, and out here they are usually the main event. A shed on a rural block is warmer, damper and far less disturbed than the house, and it normally has timber and stored material stacked against the walls. Tank stands hold moisture at ground level in exactly the spot a colony would choose. Both go unlooked at for years, which is why they are where we start rather than where we finish.

We're surrounded by bush. Does that make it worse?

It changes the job rather than making it hopeless. Retained native vegetation means mature trees, stumps and fallen timber permanently within foraging range, and more spider, ant and rodent movement onto the property than a suburban block ever sees. The answer is to work the boundary and the outbuildings properly and inspect on a shorter cycle, not to try to treat the bush, which nobody can do and nobody should promise.

How often should I get a termite inspection in Silverbark Ridge?

Every six to nine months would be our honest recommendation here, rather than the twelve-month minimum. QBCC guidance is annual inspection where the hazard rating is high and CSIRO’s national termite survey sets this region at high hazard, and a property with bush on most sides sits above the average that guidance is written for. Book a termite inspection and we will track it for you.

What does the 12-month warranty cover?

A full twelve months on every general pest treatment, with free re-treatment of anything named on your certificate that returns within the period. Termite treatment and rodent baiting sit under a separate quote and a separate warranty. It is set out in full in our terms and conditions.
