Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN ROCHEDALE SOUTH
Rochedale South is the suburb where Logan City ends and Brisbane begins, and it has looked that way since the Gill family developed what was described at the time as the first fully sewered estate in the district back in 1967. The streets carry English names from that era, Ridgeway Street, Green Way, Edgeware Drive, and the housing that went up around them from the late 1960s through the 1980s is now well past the working life of anything installed against termites at the time.
A word on landmarks, because we get asked about this a lot: Underwood Park, the well-known sports ground people associate with the area, actually sits in neighbouring Rochedale, not Rochedale South, and the IKEA store most people think of as local is a few kilometres south in Slacks Creek. We mention it because when a customer calls asking whether we cover the area “near Underwood Park” or “past the IKEA,” the honest answer is that we cover Rochedale South itself and everything around it, so the name confusion never costs you a wasted call-out.
What we don’t find here is a mapped creek or reserve inside the suburb boundary, which means most call-outs are the straightforward result of 15,000-plus people living close together in established housing: ants finding their way in through the slab edge, cockroaches around bins and drains, and spiders setting up in eaves and garden beds. It is unglamorous pest pressure, but it is constant, and a suburb this size generates a steady stream of it.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN ROCHEDALE SOUTH
Termites cause more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms combined, and no home and contents policy pays for the repair. The CSIRO national termite survey places this region in its high hazard band. Rochedale South’s oldest streets date to the late 1960s, with most of the rest built out through the 1970s and 80s, so a large share of the suburb’s housing has never had a modern termite management system installed at all.
The inspection runs about 90 minutes: roof void, subfloor where there is one, internal walls, the full external perimeter, fence lines, retaining walls and any timber in the yard, read with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing needs to be opened up. Coptotermes acinaciformis, the termite species responsible for most structural damage in South East Queensland, nests in stumps and tree bases and forages up to 50 metres, so even a yard with no obvious bushland nearby can carry risk from a single mature tree next door.
Because so much of the suburb was built before annual inspection became standard practice, we spend real time explaining what a report actually means: a clean inspection today is not a guarantee for next year, it is a snapshot, and the QBCC recommends a licensed pest controller inspect and report on a property every year, or more often in high hazard areas.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
A quick spray around the outside is not a real treatment. We start indoors, working through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, before moving up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Outside covers the full perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, with webbing and wasp nests taken down and dust or bait pushed into wall and roof voids no surface spray will reach. Given how much of Rochedale South is standard house-and-yard housing, this is the job we do most often here, and we do the whole thing rather than the quick version.
Most homes run 60 to 90 minutes depending on size and history. Certificate by email the same day, with a reminder set for your next service so you are not relying on memory.

Frequently Asked Questions
Rochedale South Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Rochedale South?
It depends on the size of your home and what we find on inspection, so we quote after a look rather than guessing over the phone. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property and the problem, and what we quote is what you pay. Free either way. Given the high termite hazard rating for this region and the age of a lot of Rochedale South’s housing stock, it is worth asking about a termite inspection at the same time.
Is Underwood Park in Rochedale South?
No, and it is a common mix-up. Underwood Park sits in the neighbouring suburb of Rochedale, not Rochedale South, and the IKEA store people often associate with the area is actually in Slacks Creek. We cover Rochedale South and every suburb around it, so if you are unsure exactly which side of a boundary your property falls on, just give us the address and we will confirm coverage on the call.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Rochedale South?
Every 12 months at a minimum. Most of Rochedale South’s housing went in from the late 1960s through the 1980s, well before annual termite inspections were standard practice, so a lot of homes here have gone years, sometimes decades, without a proper check. The QBCC recommends yearly inspections as a minimum in high hazard areas, and this region is rated high hazard. Book a termite inspection and we will hold the reminder for next year.
Do you treat ants and cockroaches or just termites?
Both, and general pest control is the more common call in a suburb this size and this established. A standard treatment covers ants, cockroaches, spiders, silverfish and wasps as one job, inside and out, with termites quoted and warranted separately as their own inspection. See residential pest control for what a standard visit covers.
How quickly can you get to Rochedale South?
Same day or the next in most cases, Saturdays included. Sitting right on the Brisbane border keeps Rochedale South an easy suburb for us to reach quickly. Ring 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent on the call, scratching in the roof, a wasp nest near the front door, or termite damage you have just found, and it moves up the run.
What does the 12-month warranty actually cover?
Every general pest treatment carries a full year, and anything named on your certificate that reappears in that time gets re-treated at no charge. Termites and rodent baiting sit outside this warranty and are quoted and covered separately. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
My yard backs onto a neighbour's overgrown block. Does that matter?
It can, particularly for spiders, rodents and termites, all of which will happily use an unmaintained boundary as a staging point into a well-kept yard next door. We cannot treat a property we are not engaged on, but we will tell you honestly on inspection if a neighbouring boundary looks like an ongoing source, and adjust your treatment and inspection frequency to account for it rather than pretending the problem starts and stops at your fence.
