Heathwood is the only suburb in this group that borders Logan City, adjoining Greenbank and Forestdale, so the southern boundary faces much larger tracts of bushland than anything on the Brisbane side, and Oxley Creek runs along the south-west. Practically that means huntsman and web-building spiders, rodents moving along the creek and bush corridors, wasps in eaves and sheds, and termite nest sites in mature timber within foraging range.
