Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN HILLCREST
Hillcrest was carved out of Browns Plains and gazetted as its own suburb in June 1987, taking its name from the rise it partly sits on. It is bounded by Johnson Road, the Mount Lindesay Highway, the interstate rail line and Coronation Road, which keeps it compact and clearly defined compared with some of its neighbours.
What makes Hillcrest distinctive is its infrastructure rather than any waterway or bushland. The Wineglass Water Tower, completed in 1984, holds a million litres of water, weighs 400 tonnes and is lit at night, visible for kilometres and easily the suburb’s best known landmark. Around it sits a genuine cluster of civic and emergency services: the Logan West Community Centre, a relocated house that once served as headquarters for the old Logan and Albert Library Board, a fire station built in 1986, an ambulance station from 1982, and a police station from 1988. There is no school anywhere in the suburb, and no confirmed waterway or bushland reserve either, so Hillcrest’s identity is built almost entirely around this civic precinct rather than parkland.
That combination, an older, fully residential estate with genuine civic infrastructure at its centre and no natural features to speak of, means pest pressure here is largely the standard suburban mix: ants and cockroaches around kitchens and bins, spiders in eaves and garages, and termites in housing that has now had several decades to age since the mid-1980s build-out.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN HILLCREST
Each year termites damage more Australian homes than fire, flood and storms combined, and the repair bill is not something insurance will pay. The CSIRO national termite survey rates this region high hazard. Most of Hillcrest was built out through the mid-to-late 1980s alongside its civic precinct, which puts the suburb’s original housing stock well past the working life of any barrier installed at construction.
We go through the roof void, subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the full perimeter, fence lines and any yard timber, using a moisture meter and thermal camera to avoid cutting into anything. Coptotermes acinaciformis forages up to 50 metres from its nest, so a single established tree on a neighbouring block is enough to bring risk to a property with no obvious bushland nearby.
Given how many Hillcrest homes are now approaching or past 40 years old, the QBCC’s recommendation of annual inspections in high hazard areas matters more here than in a newer estate, since the margin for error on an ageing or expired barrier is much smaller.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes with a spray wand around the perimeter is not a proper treatment. Indoors is covered first, the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, before we move up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Externally we cover the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, clear webbing and wasp nests, and push dust or bait into voids that spraying alone would miss. In a suburb this compact and fully residential, most jobs are straightforward house-and-yard treatments rather than anything requiring special access or commercial scheduling.
A typical visit runs 60 to 90 minutes. We email the certificate the same day and set a reminder so you are not relying on memory.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hillcrest Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Hillcrest?
It depends on the size and age of your home, and we quote after an inspection rather than over the phone. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property, and what we quote is what you pay, free either way. Worth asking about a termite inspection at the same time given this region’s high termite hazard rating and the age of most Hillcrest housing.
What is the Wineglass Water Tower and does it affect pest control?
It is Hillcrest’s landmark water tower, completed in 1984, holding a million litres and lit at night, and it sits within a cluster of fire, police, ambulance and community facilities that gives the suburb its civic identity. It does not directly affect pest pressure, but it is a useful reference point for us when confirming exactly where a property sits, since Hillcrest is a compact, tightly bounded suburb.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Hillcrest?
Every 12 months at a minimum. Most Hillcrest housing dates from the mid-to-late 1980s, old enough that original barriers are long past their working life. The QBCC recommends annual inspections in high hazard areas, and this region is rated high hazard. Book a termite inspection and we will set the reminder.
Is there a park or reserve in Hillcrest we should know about?
Not one we could confirm within the suburb boundary itself, which is actually a useful thing to know: Hillcrest’s pest pressure tends to be the standard suburban mix rather than anything driven by bushland or waterway proximity, since the suburb’s identity is built around its civic and emergency-services precinct instead.
Do you treat older homes differently to newer ones?
Yes, in the sense that we look harder for signs an original barrier has failed and we are more conservative about recommending a fresh termite management system rather than just another inspection. With most of Hillcrest now 35 to 40 years old, that distinction matters more here than in a suburb with a lot of recent construction.
How quickly can you get to Hillcrest?
Usually same or next day, and we work Saturdays too. Ring 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent, a wasp nest, scratching in the roof, or termite damage just found, and it moves up the run.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
General treatments are warranted for a full year, and we re-treat anything named on your certificate that comes back in that time at no charge. Termite work and rodent baiting are priced and warranted on their own terms. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
