Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN KINGSTON
Kingston is named after Charles and Harriet Kingston, who arrived around 1872 and built the homestead Oakwood, with the railway reaching the township in 1885 and the name officially adopted in 1890. The Southern Queensland Co-operative Dairy Company opened a butter factory here in 1907, running until 1983, and the building is now a heritage-listed community arts precinct known as the Living Museum of Logan.
Kingston also has a genuinely unusual environmental history. Gold was mined at nearby Mount Taylor from 1885, and after the mine closed in 1954 the site was used to dump cyanide and refining waste, then general waste, into the 1970s. In 1986 residents discovered black sludge seeping into their gardens, a resident group formed the following year, and the Queensland Government eventually resumed 46 properties and rehabilitated the site, reopening it as Mount Taylor Parklands in 1991. Part of that rehabilitated land became the Kingston Park residential estate, which is why Kingston has a noticeably higher share of townhouses than most of its neighbours.
Scrubby Creek, a tributary of the Logan River, forms Kingston’s southern boundary, and the suburb has its own railway station, distinct from nearby Loganlea’s. With the lowest median household income and highest rental rate in this group, and a real mix of century-old township heritage and 1990s infill housing, Kingston’s pest pressure runs the full range from established old-township homes to newer townhouse blocks.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN KINGSTON
More Australian homes are damaged by termites each year than by fire, flood and storms combined, and no insurer picks up the bill. The CSIRO national termite survey rates this region high hazard. Kingston’s housing spans everything from century-old township buildings to the 1990s Kingston Park estate, so we adjust our approach to the age and construction of each property rather than assuming one standard build.
Roof void, subfloor where one exists, internal walls, the full external perimeter, fence lines and yard timber are all checked, using a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing needs opening up. Scrubby Creek along the southern boundary brings ground moisture and mature vegetation that Coptotermes acinaciformis is drawn to, and Mount Taylor Parklands, though rehabilitated, still carries the mature tree cover of a long-established green space.
For Kingston Park’s townhouses, we treat the shared roof space and party walls that actually carry a population between units, and quote a building-wide inspection where a body corporate wants one. The QBCC recommends annual inspections as a minimum in high hazard areas, township housing and townhouse alike.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Walking around the outside with a spray wand for ten minutes does not count as a treatment. The job starts inside, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then continues up into the roof space and down into the subfloor where there is one.
Outside, coverage extends across the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, clearing webbing and wasp nests and dusting or baiting voids that a spray cannot get into. In a Kingston Park townhouse we also cover the shared roof space and party wall, and provide reports for the property file where a managing agent is involved.
Most homes run 60 to 90 minutes. You get a certificate by email that same day, and we set a reminder for next time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Kingston Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Kingston?
It depends on whether it is an older township home or a Kingston Park townhouse, and the quote follows an inspection rather than a phone guess. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property, and what we quote is what you pay, free either way. Worth mentioning given this region’s high termite hazard rating.
Is Loganlea station in Kingston?
No, Kingston has its own railway station, separate from Loganlea’s, despite the two being close neighbours. If you are confirming an address, tell us the street and we will check which suburb it actually falls in.
I'm in a Kingston Park townhouse. Do we need a building-wide termite inspection?
For a genuinely reliable result, yes, since the roof space and party walls usually run the length of the building, and a clean report on one lot is not a clean report on the block. We can inspect your unit specifically and also quote a building-wide job for your body corporate to consider, with the figure put in writing so the committee has something concrete to work from.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Kingston?
Every 12 months at a minimum. The QBCC recommends annual inspections in high hazard areas, and Kingston’s mix of century-old township housing and 1990s estate homes means the risk profile varies street to street. Book a termite inspection and we will hold your reminder.
Is the old Mount Taylor mine site still a concern?
No, the site was formally rehabilitated by the Queensland Government and reopened as Mount Taylor Parklands in 1991, a well-documented remediation. It has no bearing on pest control today beyond being a mature green space like any established park, which brings the usual mix of moisture and vegetation-related pest pressure to nearby properties.
How quickly can you get to Kingston?
Typically same day or the following one, Saturdays included. Ring 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent, a wasp nest, scratching in the roof, or termite damage just found, and it moves up the run.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Every general pest treatment carries a full year, and anything named on your certificate that reappears in that time gets re-treated free. Termite work and rodent baiting run on a different warranty, quoted separately from general pest cover. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
