Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN MARSDEN
Marsden is the largest and youngest suburb in this part of Logan, holding around 14,795 people with a median age of 28, which is a full decade under the Queensland figure. Households here average 3.3 people, the biggest of any suburb nearby, and flats make up just 0.2 per cent of dwellings, so this is a suburb of full family houses rather than units. More people in a house means more kitchen activity, more food storage and more traffic in and out, and cockroach and ant problems build faster because of it.
Just over half the homes are rented and outright ownership is the lowest of any Logan suburb we service, so a large share of our work here comes through agents, property managers and tenants rather than long-term owners. That usually means we are called later than we would like, once something is well established.
Scrubby Creek marks a primary boundary of the suburb, and settlers built a crossing over it long before the estates arrived. It carries more than sixty kilometres of waterways across Logan’s second largest catchment, and council names tilapia, carp and mosquito fish as pest species that thrive in its disconnected stretches. Creek-corridor parkland and bikeways run alongside it, which is good for the suburb and also a permanent corridor for rodents and mosquitoes.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN MARSDEN
Termites cause more damage to Australian homes each year than fire, flood and storms combined, and insurance covers none of it. This part of Ipswich and Logan sits inside the CSIRO high termite hazard band. Marsden’s housing history is unusually well documented and it matters here. The land was subdivided as Kingston Park in 1944, sold as farmlets to ex-servicemen and post-war immigrants with a condition requiring them to plant macadamia trees. Timber Top followed in 1978 and Crestmead Estate in 1981, and Marsden State School opened in 1978.
That history leaves two things in the ground. The oldest housing dates from an era with no termite management requirement at all, and the old farmlets mean mature trees, old stumps and buried timber across a lot of blocks. Macadamias planted in the 1940s are substantial trees now. A Coptotermes colony nests in tree bases and stumps and forages up to 50 metres from the nest, so an old orchard tree in the back corner is worth knowing about.
The inspection runs about 90 minutes. Roof void, subfloor where there is one, internal walls, the full external perimeter, fence lines, retaining walls, stumps and yard timber, with a moisture meter and thermal camera reading behind the linings. Find termites and you get real options with real costs: chemical barrier, bait and monitoring system, or the two together.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes and a spray wand around the outside is not what you are paying for, and in a busy family house it would not touch the problem. Inside comes first and gets the most attention: kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then behind and under the fridge, the dishwasher and the oven, because in a full household those appliance voids are where a cockroach population actually lives.
Then the roof void and the floor cavity, and outside the building perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds. On a Marsden block with mature trees left from the old farmlets we also look at stumps, sleepers and anything timber sitting on soil. Webbing and wasp nests come down while we are on site, and voids no spray reaches get dust or bait instead.
Most homes run 60 to 90 minutes. Before we leave you get told what was found, what was treated and the practical things worth changing, which in a big household is usually about food storage and bin routine rather than more chemical. Certificate emailed the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Marsden Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Marsden?
The size of the home decides most of it, and the price is fixed before we book. Marsden houses tend to be larger than average because households here are bigger, so a four or five bedroom home takes longer than a small one, and the quote reflects that rather than pretending they are the same job. Ring 1300 545 489, tell us the number of bedrooms and what you are seeing, and you will get a real figure on the call at no cost. This region rates high termite risk with CSIRO, and insurance excludes termite damage entirely. Our 365 Pest Protection Plans spread it over the year.
We have a big household. Does that make cockroaches harder to get rid of?
It makes them faster to establish, which is not the same as harder to treat, but it does change the approach. Marsden households average 3.3 people, the largest of any suburb nearby, and more people means more cooking, more food storage, more bins and more coming and going. German cockroaches breed through three to four generations a year and they live in appliance motors and wall voids, not on the surfaces you can see. So we treat the harbourage: behind and under the fridge, dishwasher and oven, into wall voids and cracks with gel bait and dust. Then we tell you the two or three habit changes that matter, which is usually food storage and bin routine.
I am renting. Can I book you myself?
Yes, and plenty of tenants here do. A tenant can book and pay for a general pest treatment directly, which is often what the lease requires at the end of a tenancy. Anything structural stays with the owner: termite inspections, barriers, rodent proofing, or anything involving the roof or subfloor. With just over half of Marsden homes rented, we deal with this constantly, so if you are not sure which side it falls on, ring 1300 545 489 and describe the situation. We will tell you straight and give you a quote you can forward to the agent without having to argue the case yourself.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Marsden?
Every twelve months as a floor. The QBCC recommends a licensed pest controller inspect and report on your property every year, or more often in high hazard areas. There is a specifically Marsden reason to take it seriously: the suburb was subdivided as farmlets from 1944 with a covenant requiring macadamia planting, so a lot of blocks still carry mature trees and old stumps from that era. Coptotermes acinaciformis occurs throughout Queensland and nests in exactly that. If you have an old orchard tree in the yard, mention it. Book an inspection.
We keep getting fleas. Where are they coming from?
Usually from the yard rather than the pet, which is why treating the animal alone never finishes it. Flea larvae develop in shaded, sheltered soil and litter: under the house, under decks, in mulched garden beds and in the dirt where the dog actually lies during the day. A treatment that covers the interior but ignores those spots leaves the population intact to re-emerge. So we treat inside, then the yard harbourage, and we ask you to keep up the veterinary treatment on the animal at the same time, because the three together is what breaks the cycle. Tell us where the pets sleep and where they lie outside when you book, since that is where we concentrate. See the residential page.
How quickly can you get to Marsden?
Same day or next, Saturdays included. Marsden is on the regular Logan West run with Browns Plains and Crestmead and it is one of our busier suburbs, so we are usually here anyway rather than making a trip. Ring 1300 545 489 and you get the actual next available slot instead of a place on a list. Flag anything urgent on the call and it moves up: rats in the roof, a wasp nest by the back door, cockroaches through the kitchen. If you are an agent needing access coordinated with a tenant, say so and we will handle the notice and arrangements rather than pushing that back to you.
What is covered by the 12-month warranty?
Twelve months on every general pest treatment, and if the pests we treated for come back inside that window we return and re-treat at no cost. What is covered is what your certificate names: ants, cockroaches, spiders and silverfish on a standard treatment. Termite work, rodent baiting and bed bugs are quoted and warranted separately because they run to different cycles. Fleas are worth flagging separately too: we warrant the treatment, but ongoing veterinary treatment of the animal is the part we cannot do for you, and without it the cycle restarts. We will explain that before you pay rather than after. Read the detail in our terms and conditions.
