Our Local KNowledge
COMMON PESTS IN CRESTMEAD
Crestmead’s first European settlers were Swedish immigrants who arrived in 1885 and farmed oats, maize, potatoes and turnips on poor sandy soil, with the district informally known as Hubner after another early farming family. The suburb name itself was only formally gazetted in 1987, taken from the Crestmead housing estate rather than the older Hubner name the shire had originally intended to use.
The defining feature today is the dual character of the place. The Crestmead Industrial Estate opened in May 1983 on land formerly owned by one of the original Swedish settler families, and today runs 24-hour light and medium industry including food processing, while the residential centre and east of the suburb house one of Queensland’s largest public primary schools, Crestmead State School, alongside St Francis’ College. There is no government secondary school and no train station within the suburb, so families rely on neighbouring Waterford West and Kingston for both.
A large parkland corridor follows a tributary of the Logan River through the eastern residential area, associated with Crestmead Park, though no source names the specific creek, so we treat it as a parkland waterway corridor rather than naming a watercourse we cannot confirm. With the highest rental rate of any suburb in this group and a genuine industrial precinct running around the clock, pest pressure here is a real mix of standard household call-outs and commercial rodent and cockroach management.
Termites
TERMITE INSPECTIONS IN CRESTMEAD
Nationally, termite damage outstrips the combined cost of fire, flood and storms every year, and it falls outside what any insurance policy will pay. The CSIRO national termite survey rates this region high hazard, and Crestmead’s housing, largely built from the mid-1980s, has had decades for any original barrier to break down.
The inspection takes in the roof void, subfloor where it exists, internal walls, the entire external perimeter, fence lines and yard timber, assessed with a moisture meter and thermal camera so nothing has to be opened up. The parkland corridor running through the eastern part of the suburb brings more consistent ground moisture and mature vegetation than a fully built-out block, both conditions Coptotermes acinaciformis is drawn to.
For the industrial estate we also offer termite risk assessments as part of a wider commercial pest contract, relevant for operators with structural timber or stored goods to protect. The QBCC recommends annual inspections as a minimum in high hazard areas for both residential and commercial property.
What you get
What's Included in a Pest Treatment
Ten minutes and a spray wand around the outside is not a treatment. Inside comes first, through the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, wardrobes and skirting boards, then up into the roof void and down into the subfloor where one exists.
Outside, we work the perimeter, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes, fence lines and garden beds, taking down webbing and wasp nests and pushing dust or bait into voids a surface spray cannot reach. For the industrial estate we map and number rodent stations, work around 24-hour operating schedules, and provide documentation suited to food safety or lease compliance.
Most properties take about 60 to 90 minutes to treat properly. Certificate by email the same day, with a reminder set for your next service, or a recurring schedule for commercial premises.

Frequently Asked Questions
Crestmead Pest Control FAQs
The things people ask us most before they book.
How much does pest control cost in Crestmead?
It depends on whether it is a house or a premises on the industrial estate. Ring 1300 545 489, describe the property, and what we quote is what you pay, free either way. Given this region’s high termite hazard rating, ask about a termite check on the same call if your home is one of the older ones.
Do you service businesses on the Crestmead Industrial Estate?
Yes, this is a regular part of our work in the suburb. We service light and medium industrial and food-processing premises with mapped rodent stations, scheduling around 24-hour operations, and documentation suited to food safety or lease audits. See commercial pest control.
I'm a tenant or landlord. Who books the pest treatment?
Usually whoever holds the maintenance responsibility under the lease, which is most often the landlord or managing agent. Given how many Crestmead properties are rented, we deal with this regularly and can talk you through it if you are not sure who should be booking.
How often should I get a termite inspection in Crestmead?
Every 12 months at a minimum. Most Crestmead housing dates from the mid-1980s, and the QBCC recommends yearly inspections in high hazard areas. Book a termite inspection and we will hold your reminder.
Do you cover the parkland area near Crestmead Park?
Yes, and properties backing onto that corridor tend to see more ants, spiders and mosquito activity than a block further from it, given the parkland waterway running through. We will factor that into the inspection and treatment plan rather than treating every yard in the suburb the same.
How quickly can you get to Crestmead?
Most of the time it’s same day or next day, including Saturdays. Ring 1300 545 489 and flag anything urgent on the call, and it moves up the run, including active problems on the industrial estate, which can carry a compliance deadline.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Every standard job carries a full 12-month warranty, and any listed pest that turns up again inside that year gets re-treated at no cost to you. Termites, rodent baiting and commercial contracts are quoted and warranted on their own terms. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
