Sheds and pump housings are timber-rich, rarely disturbed and usually sitting straight on the ground with no barrier under them, so they get colonised well before the house and then supply it quietly. Rodents live out there too, because that is where the feed, fuel, birdseed and pet food are stored. Partly, and it is worth understanding what it actually is. The Shailer Pioneer Park wetland on Shailer Road was built between September and December 2014 to treat stormwater from the Slacks Creek catchment, and it now supports at least five native frog species, which is a sign of a functioning system rather than a stagnant one. Constructed treatment wetlands are designed to move water rather than hold it still. In our experience the mosquitoes people notice at home are breeding much closer than that: blocked gutters, pot plant bases, bird baths, a poorly sealed tank, the low corner of the yard.
